Pizza Sloppy Joes
Crumbles of Italian sausage, marinara, sauteed mushrooms, onions, and green peppers, pepperoni slices, and melty mozzarella cheese all served up on a toasted bun. It's pizza but Sloppy Joe style!

- 1 pound Italian Sausage - bulk or removed from casings
- 16 ounces Marinara or Red Sauce approx 2 cups
- 1/2 cup onion - diced
- 1/2 cup green bell pepper - diced
- 1 cup mushrooms - white or cremini sliced
- 1/2 cup pepperoni - quartered
- 4 buns - hamburger, bakery, deli, or sliders style
- 4 slices mozzarella cheese shredded cheese may be substituted
Preheat oven to broil.
On the stove top, cook ground Italian bulk sausage in a large skillet on a medium heat for 6-8 minutes.
When sausage is almost cooked through, add diced onion, green pepper, and sliced mushrooms.
Continue cooking until sausage begins to brown (165 degrees) and vegetables are tender-crisp, about another 5 minutes.
Drain any excess drippings if necessary.
Add Red Sauce or Marinara, stir to combine, and continue to cook until the sauce is heated through.
Place open bun halves, interior facing up, on a large baking sheet.
Place pizza sloppy joe mixture on the open bun bottoms and top with the cheese.
Broil for 2-4 minutes until cheese is melted and bun top is toasted.
Assemble Pizza Sloppy Joe sandwich and enjoy!
This recipe is very easy to double. If doing so, use 2 pounds of Italian sausage for a standard 28 oz jar of marinara.
